FAQ
How is this different from the "MVP Scope Definition" service?
Scope definition answers what goes into the first release. The roadmap plans everything after it: how the product rolls out from there, in which releases, in what order, and by which criteria you move between stages. They work well back to back: first the boundary of release one, then the route several steps ahead.
And how is it different from "Estimation & Timeline Planning"?
The roadmap answers what comes after what; estimation answers how long it takes and when it will be ready. A roadmap can exist without exact dates, but dates without a roadmap are meaningless. If you need both layers, the effort estimate can be added to this service.
What exactly will I receive?
A visual roadmap in an editable format and a document in Google Docs and PDF: the contents of each release, the dependencies between them, milestones with exit criteria, goals and metrics per stage, and a list of risks with a response plan.
Will the roadmap contain specific dates?
In the base version the roadmap is built around sequence and relative horizons — first release, second, third — rather than calendar dates. Dates arrive once effort has been estimated: you can add that as an extra or order it separately.
What do you need from me to start?
An understanding of the product and a list of what needs building. If you already have a defined MVP scope, a technical specification or a backlog, send them over — the roadmap comes together faster and more accurately. If the scope is not yet fixed, start with MVP Scope Definition.
How far ahead do you plan?
Usually 3–4 releases. The first is worked through in detail, the rest in broad blocks. Planning two years out in detail looks impressive but rarely survives the first three months of work, so we deliberately avoid it.
What happens when plans change?
That is normal, and the roadmap is built for it: the file is editable and stays with you, so your team can rearrange blocks themselves. If the strategy shifts and the whole sequence needs rethinking, we can refresh the roadmap by separate arrangement or as part of a quarterly update.
Will this work if my product is already live?
Yes, and in that case it is often more useful than at the start. We work through the accumulated backlog, current commitments and technical debt, then build a sequence where new development does not block maintenance.
Who owns the materials?
You do, with no restrictions. The roadmap and document can be shared with your team and contractors, used in presentations, and changed however you like.
How many revisions are included and what if I need more?
Two rounds within 7 days of delivery. A round is one consolidated list of comments that we work through in full. An extra cycle costs $100 and adds 1 business day.
